Character
Character Name: Yuyuko Saigyouji
Canon: Touhou Project
Canon Point: Post Perfect Cherry Blossom
Type: OU
Age: Technically over 1,000 years old — appears in her early 20s.

History/Key Points: Once upon a time, there was a young girl with the power to end the life of any living thing. This power was seen as a curse to the young girl, and in her anguish and loneliness, she took her own life, her mortal soul used as a seal for the great soul-stealing tree, Saigyou Ayakashi.

Perhaps due to her desire to live a seemingly normal life, the young girl was reborn as a ghost. Yuyuko Saigyouji, the young girl who was cursed by death, was given a second chance at life--so to speak. She would not remember her previous life walking among the living, and would instead walk among the spirits of Hakugyokurou as its princess. It was hard to say how many centuries would pass during this time, but through her unlife, she was able to make friends not only with the spirits of the netherworld, but with youkai residing within Gensokyo. While she herself would not get involved in their personal affairs, she was captivated by the stories of youkai and humans living in the world of the living.

    PERFECT CHERRY BLOSSOM
  • Yuyuko attempts to steal the essence of spring in order to cause Saigyou Akayashi to bloom
  • Meets Reimu Hakurei, Marisa Kirisame and Sakuya Izayoi when they come to the Underworld to investigate
  • Yuyuko and her half-human gardener are defeated, and springtime is returned to Gensokyo

Personality: Yuyuko is a strange one. The first impression that the ghost princess tends to give is that she is a bit dense, and that she may not be too bright. While extremely polite and carefree, she comes off as an airhead, seeming to miss the point of some conversations completely. Dig a little deeper, however, and you'll find that she is much more perceptive than she lets on, possessing a razor-sharp wit and keen observation for even the most minute details.

When she walked among the living, Yuyuko's life was plagued by the crippling responsibility that her powers demanded over her. At a glance, that sense of responsibility and duty seem absent with her now, left instead with a jovial and, at times, almost lazy demeanor. Seen as cheerful and untouched by many of the hardships that come with once being alive, she floats through life--figuratively and literally. She does not consciously remember what it was like.

Subconsciously, however, she displays that she at least has some memory of her past, or, at least in some ways, cursory awareness of how and why she died. In all her efforts to revive Saigyou Akayashi, Yuyuko fails. While her actions are thwarted through the efforts of Reimu, Marisa and/or Sakuya, it is very much implied that Yuyuko could have surpassed them easily; however, this would be at the cost of her former soul. Whether her failure was a manifestation of a sense of self-preservation, or her remembering the latent, sealed power of the soul-stealing tree that caused her to hold back is not clear.

Her playful, floaty demeanor, while still authentic in most senses, also gives way to a rapier wit. Yuyuko notices things, and remembers them, whether or not she lets on to that effect. Having existed for a number of centuries, she has seen many things, and has no shortage of secrets. She often holds back on what she knows, as well as in her own combative capabilities, and it is hard to say whether or not the ghost princess has really shown her true potential either on the battlefield or in polite conversation. She can make a profound observation one moment, then quickly brush it aside with a lackadaisical retort.

Yuyuko is an enigma, though she may not intially seem that way. She is genuinely a nice enough person to be around, even if she comes off as dimwitted in polite conversation. However, behind that dense outer layer is a calculating mind, the cogs aways turning. She is one to be cautious around, both as an enemy and as a friend.

Gem: Ajoite meanings

Ajoite represents the rebirth of Yuyuko Saigyouji. The stone allows the wearer to dispel any negative energy around them, be it sadness, jealousy or spite, and transforming it into peace and tranquility. The gem also has a connection to the spiritual plane. Ajoite is also said to help the wearer remain young looking; Yuyuko's appearance has not changed in the countless centuries that she has been residing in Gensokyo.

Power Considerations: (All powers will come with an opt-out post for players to use, and will be discussed with the mods before using on event NPCs)
  • PACIFYING PRESENCE: While Yuyuko can no longer beckon souls to the Netherworld, her very existence still affects certain beings. With a large amount of concentration, Yuyuko can temporarily pacify or soothe a rampaging crystal, creating a calming aura around herself. This dampens the crystal's senses for up to one minute at full strength. Yuyuko can control which crystal(s) this power affects, but the more targets she tries to pacify, the weaker this aura becomes; this will also shorten its overall duration.
  • CRYSTAL COMMUNICATION: Yuyuko's ability to speak to spirits (while far easier in Gensokyo than it might be in other worlds) manifests itself by an ability to communicate with crystals who may not otherwise be capable of normal speech. This can be used to communicate with crystal monsters, using simple words and concepts. Whether or not they understand is based solely upon the crystal monster itself. Using this along with her Ghost Butterflies helps strengthen the chain of communication.
  • GHOST BUTTERFLIES: Yuyuko is able to summon spectral butterflies at will. Their function varies based upon her particular needs. In combat, they can create large and complex arrays that may confuse the enemy; they may also damage whatever they attack (this method is also accompanied by a dazzling display behind her, further acting to confuse her enemy). In everyday circumstances, they act as companions, and aid Yuyuko with communicating with other gems (see Crystal Communication above).

Extra: I have nothing to add, so have a hungry ghost instead.
